Once again Sunset Park has won the David Bellamy Gold Award for conservation. This is the 9th year running that we have received this accolade!
A great time was had by all on Sunday 11th August for our annual Owners Day party. Nearly 300 people turn out to enjoy the fun and games and to sample the delights of the Hog Roast!
Look what one of our owners, Derek, has been up to. He has set up www.sunset-wildlife.co.uk uploading loads of shots of the wildlife that pass his door. He has got Thomas, our resident hare, plus birds, ducks, moorhens, rabbits, butterflies, bees, insects and many more. Well worth keeping as a favorite as Derek updates daily.
The North West Branch of the British Holiday & Home Park Association held a really good meeting hosted by Sunset Park Lancashire. Speakers included Chris Allen of Blacks solicitors, Leeds speaking on Social Media, Twitter in particular, Steven Hunter from KPMG and Ruth Connor, CEO of Marketing Lancashire. The latest grass cutting equipment was also on display for the park owners to get ‘hands on’.
After an excellent local hot pot supper, Ruth took a moment to offer her congratulations to Sunset Park, current holders of the Visit Lancashire’s Gold ‘Caravan Holiday Park/Holiday Village of the Year Award’, for their achievement of ‘Highly Commended’ in the same category of the Visit England Awards. That places Sunset Park in the top rated caravan holiday parks in England.
It was a triple celebration at Sunset Park, Hambleton. Sandy and Michael Taylor, Directors of parent company, Carr Royd Parks Ltd, first raised their glasses to welcome back Sunset’s holiday owners for the new season and the official opening of the newly refurbished Sunset Club. During the short time the Club was closed for the winter, a new well insulated ceiling was installed complete with a new colour changing low wattage lighting system, all in keeping with Sunset’s ‘Green Policies’. New carpet and chairs arrived and a new projection system with a large screen to show sporting events at larger than life scale.
The second toast was to celebrate Sunset Park again making the Finals for the ‘England for Excellence Awards’ for the Caravan Holiday Park / Holiday Village of the Year 2012-2013 to be held next month. Sunset already has the Gold for the ‘Lancashire Caravan Holiday Park / Holiday Village of the Year 2012-2013 Award’ being the first park to retain the title two years in a row since the rules allowing entry the year following a win have been changed. This is the third time Sunset has been selected as a Finalist for the England Award. The previous times Sunset has been awarded Silver and Highly Commended. Fingers are crossed for the Finals to be held at a gala evening at Old Trafford. Maybe it could be third time lucky! It is still a great achievement to be selected as one of the best caravan parks in the country whatever award Sunset may come away with.
The third toast was with very mixed emotions. It was to welcome some Taylor family members into the business which was the happy part of the toast but to also say ‘good bye’ to the husband and wife team who have been with the company for 27 and 26 years respectively. David and Chris Mooney are retiring after serving the company, Carr Royd Parks Ltd., through many years of change and growth starting work originally at their park at Bassenthwaite and then at Head Office at Hambleton. Whatever was needed, they both pitched in with loyal service and will be missed by the company and the owners on the two parks at Hambleton. The new faces are Michael’s son Paul Taylor, appointed as a Director, daughter-in-law Karen as Park Manager and grandson, Elliot, as an apprentice to learn about caravan park management. Michael Taylor presented David and Chris with a leaving present and the entire Club joined to say a ‘thank you’ to the old faces and a ‘welcome’ to the new.
Sunset Park Keeps the Gold Lancashire Tourism Award for “Caravan Holiday Park & Holiday Village 2012-2013”
Previously, in the Tourism Awards for Lancashire, if you won the Gold one year, you couldn’t apply the next. Sunset Park at Hambleton near Blackpool has won the award every other year since 2000. The rules changed this year so Sunset Park is the first caravan holiday park to be able to successfully defend its title as the winner of the Caravan Holiday Park & Holiday Village of the Year Award in Lancashire. And defend it they did! Sunset took Gold again at the glittering award ceremony held at the Guild Hall, Preston. The judges said they were impressed by Sunset Park’s commitment to continually raise the customer experience as well as the many efforts in park development creating an aesthetic blend of man and nature. Their landscaping of the new lakeside development to create a wildlife habitat with luxury lodges where holiday makers can actually fish from their decks was praised for raising the bar for others to emulate.
New Chief Executive for Marketing Lancashire, Ruth Connor, officially presented the Award to Sunset Park on site on the deck of one of the luxury lodges overlooking the lake so she could see the park for herself. Pictured receiving the award on behalf of Sunset Park is Chairman, Michael Taylor, Director Sandy Taylor and Ruth.Chairman Michael said, “We are delighted to be the first park in Lancashire to be able to defend and retain our Gold Award. To keep our quality levels is really a team effort from our Directors and staff. Every team member is important in the development of the park and customer relations. I am proud of every one of our staff and thank them for their efforts to Sunset Park retain our title.”
As winners of the Lancashire Award, Sunset Park will now go forward to the England for Excellence Awards later this year. They received a ‘Highly Commended’ in the national awards this year. Sunset Park was also finalists for the Lancashire BIBAs Awards, “Green Business of the Year 2012” for their work in improving their environment and saving energy.
For the 3rd time in a row Sunset Park Has been awarded GOLD MEDAL AWARD in best caravan park category from North West in Bloom. Presentations were made at Southport Theatre & Convention Centre. Pictured are David Mooney (Director), Christine Mooney (Park Manager) and John (Park Gardener) whose knowledge on flowers shrubs and trees is truly amazing.
On a recent trip to Toronto Canada David Mooney ( Director of Sunset & Hambleton Country Park) truly went to the Edge and back for charity. Sponsored by local residents of Sunset & Hambleton Country Park he raised over £700. The Edge Walk is a 150 metre walk around the outside of the CN tower with no handrails and is 1,200 ft above ground two and half times higher than Blackpool tower. He said ”It was the most frightening thing I have ever done in my life. Also on jubilee weekend our residents raised another £1,425 from a street party and gala days. In such hard times it is a pleasure to work with such a caring community.”
Sunset Park was highly commended at the recent BIBAs (Be Inspired Business Awards) awards ceremony. In the category for “Green Business of the Year”, we reached the finals based around the environmental considerations we addressed in the development of Green Meadows II.
